2021 Annual Meeting

9/30/2021

Thursday, October 28 | 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. | Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland

At this year’s Annual Meeting, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce will honor Maine philanthropist Harold Alfond for his significant contributions to the betterment of Mainers well beyond his 93 years of life. In addition, we will also honor business leader and civic icon David Flanagan for his countless contributions to business and civic causes.

Harold Alfond contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to charitable causes during his lifetime and beyond. An accomplished athlete, a sports fan, and someone who believed strongly that athletics offer young people valuable opportunities for personal growth, he ensured many of his philanthropic gifts were made to public and private colleges and universities and to private secondary schools to construct athletic facilities and playing fields. Every project supported by the Alfond Foundation includes collaboration, teamwork, and community involvement.

We also will honor Maine business leader David Flanagan’s for his contributions to Maine. Flanagan most recently served as executive chairman of Central Maine Power Co. and was CMP’s chief executive from 1994 to 2000. He has been widely credited for his leadership in restoring power during the landmark 1998 ice storm. After leaving CMP, Flanagan lent his “turnaround expertise” to other organizations, including helping to restructure the University of Southern Maine, where he was a longtime board member and served as interim president in 2014. In February 2020, Flanagan stepped out of retirement to become executive chairman of CMP’s board. He and his wife Kay have made many significant and lasting philanthropic contributions in Maine.

This event will be hosted in person and streamed as well. For registration, please contact Melody Rousseau by calling (207) 623-4568, ext. 104, or by emailing [email protected].
