Public Policy

Every day, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce advocates on behalf of employers’ interests before the legislature and regulatory agencies, focusing largely on these key themes: taxation and the state’s budget, health care and insurance, human resources issues, workers’ compensation, energy, environmental policy, education, and workforce development.

With the largest team of respected advocates in Augusta, our team works diligently to keep Maine businesses competitive in the global economy. Known as The Voice of Maine Business, our team influences hundreds of pieces of legislation each year that effect Maine businesses’ bottom line and the overall cost of doing business in the state.

Our advocacy staff testifies before the Maine Legislature and the state’s regulatory agencies; intervenes in adjudicatory hearings; drafts business-oriented laws and rules; meets regularly with business and state decision-makers; and, keeps members informed through newsletters, emails, alerts, reports, conferences, programs, seminars, and through personal contacts.
