Campaign features new website to streamline the application process, and Guest School Staff Members will be reimbursed for application and fingerprinting fees The Maine Department of Education and Educate Maine have partnered to launch a Guest School Staff Member campaign with a challenge to businesses, leaders, and citizens to help fill the needs in our schools. Guest School Staff Members can serve a variety of roles in schools, filling in for or supporting bus drivers, playground monitors, food service workers, teachers, and support staff.
Wireless connectivity is as central to the daily lives of Mainers as it is to the strength and vitality of building local economies. At no point has this been more apparent than throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when wireless devices, mobile hotspots and smartphone apps connected Americans to work, remote learning, telehealth, e-commerce, entertainment, loved ones…the list goes on.
Last week, the Energy, Utilities, and Technology (EUT) committee held a public hearing on LD 1894, An Act to Support Municipal Broadband Infrastructure through Incentives and Competition. This legislation was introduced by Sen. Eloise Vitelli (D-Sagadahoc) and had several co-sponsors, both House and Senate members of the Democratic Caucus. This was new legislation to the Second Session of the 130th Maine Legislature, making it through Legislative Council in December 2021. We should also note that several days before the public hearing, an amendment was released to the bill.
