Webinar 66 - Monday, April 22, 2024

Webinar: Paid Family and Medical Leave Part 1

Monday, April 22, 2024 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EST

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce will host part one of a two-part Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) webinar series on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (ET). Legislation establishing Maine’s PFML program passed in 2023. The Maine Department of Labor is undertaking a rulemaking process to help facilitate how the program will be administered. While Maine PFML program coverage will begin in May 2026, Maine employers and employees will begin paying the 1% payroll tax starting on January 1, 2025.

In part one of the Maine State Chamber’s two-part PFML webinar series, representatives from Unum and the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) will present an overview of what implementation processes have been like in other states and will shed light on common themes other states have focused on at different stages in their processes.

Note: Part 2 of the Maine State Chamber’s PFML series will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (ET) and will feature presentations by the Maine Department of Labor.

 Presenters:
  • Umberto Speranza, Assistant Vice President for Government Affairs, Unum
  • Kristen Fluet, Director of Products and Market Development, Unum
  • Sarah Montgomery, Assistant Vice President, PFML Implementation, ACLI
  • Moderated by Jake Lachance, Government Relations Specialist, Maine State Chamber
