Education Innovators Series

The Education Innovators Series is a forum where regional and national thought leaders share their views on the future of education. Presenters are paired with Maine education innovators sharing their experience from the field. The series is made possible by a partnership with Educate Maine, Education Action Forum of Maine, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, and Thomas College’s Center for Innovation in Education.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Schools

Keynote: 

Gary Schoeniger, Founder & CEO, Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative   Author and Entrepreneur Gary Schoeniger is an internationally recognized thought leader in the field of entrepreneurial mindset education. His message has influenced a broad audience from academic institutions and economic development organizations to government and non-profit clients worldwide including the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute, the Colombian Ministry of Education, the U.S. State Department, and the European Commission.  Read full bio here.  

Two Maine Educator Respondents:

Michelle Anderson, President, Junior Achievement of Maine  Michelle oversees all JA of Maine operations, including strategic vision, fundraising, partnership development, and mission expansion. Michelle has been with the organization for over 10 years, starting her career as an intern upon college graduation and being immediately inspired by JA's mission. Michelle is passionate about helping young people make smart education and career decisions through project-based learning and mentorship. She believes stimulating economic growth throughout the state of Maine starts with inspiring and preparing our young people. She holds an undergraduate degree in Child Development & Family Relations and Communication from the University of Maine and is a long-time dance instructor in Scarborough.

Dan Ryder, Classroom Teacher, Overman Academy  Dan is a 20 year veteran educator, improviser and design thinker and co-author of Intention: Critical Creativity in the Classroom (2017, EdTechTeam Press). He has taught English for two decades and served as the Education Director of the Success & Innovation Center at Mt. Blue Campus.  Dan currently teaches at Overman Academy. An Apple Distinguished Educator and national recipient of the Horace Mann NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, he can be followed @wickeddecent across the social media edu-sphere. He lives with his brilliantly beautiful librarian wife and their two hilarious kids in western Maine.
