Webinar 89 - Wednesday, February 4, 2026

Wednesday, February 4, 2026 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM EST

Webinar: Strengthening Rural Healthcare in Maine
Rural healthcare in Maine is at a critical crossroads. Hospital closures, workforce shortages, rising costs, and a growing reliance on Medicaid and Medicare have placed extraordinary strain on healthcare providers—threatening access to care for rural communities and the economic vitality of entire regions.

In late 2025, Maine received a historic $190 million investment through the federal Rural Health Transformation Fund, spearheaded by Senator Susan Collins, to help stabilize and strengthen the state’s rural healthcare delivery system. This funding reflects the fundamental fragility of healthcare delivery in rural Maine and presents a rare opportunity to improve health outcomes while addressing the underlying economics of care.

As the Mills Administration moves forward with implementation of this critical funding, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce invites you to join a timely discussion on what comes next. This webinar will examine the strategy for the use of the funding and how Maine can address our rural healthcare challenge in partnership with the Maine business community.

Featured speakers include:
  • Sara Gagne-Holmes, Commissioner Department of Health and Human Service
  • Jeff Austin, Vice President, Maine Hospital Association
  • Trevor Putnoky, President and CEO of the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance
  • Lori Dwyer, President and CEO of the Penobscot Community Healthcare

This is an essential conversation for employers, healthcare leaders, and stakeholders invested in the future of Maine’s rural communities and economy.
