Employers registered with the JobLink can do a “reverse job search” of more than 3,600 resumes to identify matches by geography, skills, education, experience, and more. In May, there were more than 26,000 job seekers browsing the Maine JobLink!

Did you know? In many cases, you can hire someone part-time, and they can still retain a partial unemployment benefit. The partial benefit would include the weekly $300 federal benefit, which ends on September 4, 2021. You may also be interested in the WorkShare program, which is designed to help employers avoid layoffs by allowing groups of workers to receive partial unemployment benefit payments while their employer reduces their hours. The employees are then subject to being called back when work expands. More information on WorkShare can be found online at www.maine.gov/unemployment/workshare.

Now is also a great time to be reaching out to those who are often left on the sidelines of the workforce. The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit given to private-sector businesses that hire individuals from targeted groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment, such as individuals hired within one year of their conviction or release from prison, those receiving TANF, and those with disabilities. The traditional work search requirement for unemployment insurance recipients was reinstated on Sunday, May 23. Employers who have tried to recall employees or have made job offers that have been declined can report those refusals online at www.maine.gov/unemployment/ucbr. The Maine Department of Labor will determine whether the individual is receiving unemployment benefits, and if so, then determine whether they should remain eligible.
