Maine State Chamber of Commerce's Statement Regarding COVID-19

The Staff and Board of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce continue to closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation. The aggressive actions to fight the spread of COVID-19 are important steps for public safety. We are working with state officials on ways to mitigate the impact on businesses, and will continue to consider the data, guidelines, and recommendations from the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health officials, during this ever-changing situation. 

Currently, in accordance with the Governor's recent recommendations, we encourage our members to limit non-essential travel and large-scale meetings, if you haven't already, and to postpone events with 250 or more attendees. We have made plans to set up conference calls or live-stream whenever possible. We are currently assessing our event calendar as well. This is not an easy decision, but we feel it is the most responsible to reduce the threat of COVID -19 to our members, our communities, and our state. Moving forward, future events will be evaluated on a case by case basis. As the situation unfolds, we will keep you informed via email, social media and our website. 
 
While we are all committed to doing what we can to contain COVID-19 and maintain the health and safety of our employees, we also want to ensure the health of Maine's economy. These are speculative, we realize, but our best course of action is preparedness and communication. We have found several reliable resources to help you make informed decisions and to communicate them with your employees and customers. We are developing a web page to collect them all but in the interim, please use 211Maine and the Maine CDC for Business.

We will have more information for you soon. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns. In the meantime, we intend to keep our doors open and to do what we can to support our members and those in our community who are being impacted by this situation. We ask our members to come together at this time to support one another and to make well-informed decisions, rooted in facts and science, to contain the spread of COVIC-19.
