Last month we talked about the importance of having an employee wellness program. We alluded to the fact employers do not need to start big or spend a lot of money to make a positive impact on their team members. We also suggested a great place to start is at the Healthy Maine Works website at www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/population-health/hmw/.

A recent column by Senate President Troy Jackson of Aroostook County, where I am proud to say I was born and raised, cites strengthening child care as a top priority — and success — of the last session of Maine’s Legislature.

A September editorial (Our View, Sept. 22) in the Press Herald, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel seems to suggest that Maine may not be getting the best bang for its buck when it comes to the Maine Seed Capital Tax Credit. This viewpoint and a blog post one day earlier by the liberal Maine Center for Economic Policy are both short-sighted and misinformed.

Here we are at the end of another hectic, historic year. Back in March, summer felt so far away, and now, as the weather gets colder, it feels like that was a long time ago. Despite all that is going on around us, this holiday season brings with it hope and anticipation. Perhaps it’s the contrast to last year’s holiday season that makes 2021 seem brighter.

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, the committee of legislative leadership met to screen appeals of bill titles for potential admission into the Second Regular Session that begins in January 2022. This follows the Legislative Council meeting on October 25 in which a majority of bill titles were rejected. Members of the Legislature were allowed to appeal their denied bill titles. They were given two minutes to speak to legislative leaders about why their bill should be allowed. In total, the council considered 105 requests that had been rejected and appealed by the November 1 deadline.

During the Maine State Chamber’s annual Board Orientation and Appreciation Dinner on Monday, November 22, board chair Clif Greim of Frosty Hill Consulting expressed his thanks to the Maine State Chamber’s members and valued partners for a value-filled year.
