At this year’s Annual Meeting, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce will honor Maine philanthropist Harold Alfond for his significant contributions to the betterment of Mainers well beyond his 93 years of life. In addition, we will also honor business leader and civic icon David Flanagan for his countless contributions to business and civic causes.

On September 22, the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that it will be closing I-295 over Veranda Street in Portland for a full weekend to accommodate the replacement of an aging interstate bridge. MaineDOT’s “Veranda Plan” – a full closure of the highway around Exit 9 – will run from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25. Additionally, Route 1/Veranda Street (under the bridge) will be closed for a full week – from 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25.

On September 22, the Governor’s Energy Office today announced that William Harwood, one of Maine’s most experienced energy and utility attorneys, has been appointed as Senior Advisor for Regulatory Affairs.

Designed to meet Maine’s immediate and ongoing workforce needs, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is helping Mainers with disabilities seize job opportunities and employers find the talent they need in this tight labor market. September is Workforce Development Month, and it comes at a time when the country is experiencing a challenging labor market.

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Ben Lucas has joined the Chamber’s Advocacy Team as Government Relations Specialist. Lucas will represent the Maine State Chamber and its members before the Maine State Legislature and State government offices and agencies on energy and environmental issues.
