An invitation to join the Maine Compact on Immigration

The Maine State Chamber is a member of the Maine Business Immigration Coalition (MeBIC). The coalition promotes initiatives, laws, and policies to attract, integrate, and retain immigrants in Maine’s economy and communities as consumers, workers, entrepreneurs, and citizens. The coalition works to provide information, education, and advocacy on immigration issues from the business and economic perspective.

    On February 23, MeBIC is excited to publicly announce the Maine Compact on Immigration. To date, more than 50 Maine employers have signed on to the compact, which states that Maine’s business community supports immigration policies that help remove barriers that prevent immigrants from reaching their full potential. The compact aims to encourage Maine’s congressional delegation to lead on immigration reform at the national level, and to raise awareness among state leaders and lawmakers that Maine’s business community supports policies that will make Maine a destination of choice for immigrants.
    Immigration reform is an important policy area for the Maine State Chamber. Maine is the nation’s oldest state, with our population of residents over 65 years old now exceeding those under age 18. Immigrants are part of the solution to our state’s demographic challenges and will help strengthen our communities, workforce, and economy.
