The Maine State Chamber of Commerce speaks out before state policymakers on behalf of every business in the state. But before we speak, we consult with our members on every major public policy issue facing Maine's business community.

Below, you will find a list of our public policy committees. Each is made up of Maine State Chamber member volunteers who come to Augusta on a regular basis to discuss issues and shape Chamber policy. Working with our Board of Directors, the Maine State Chamber's public policy committees make sure that when the Maine State Chamber speaks, it accurately reflects the attitudes and values of the vast majority of Maine business people across the state.

If you would like to become a member of one or more of our policy committees, please contact advocacy@mainechamber.org.

Environment
With more than 100 members, this committee is the Chamber's largest. A wide variety of environmental professionals meet on a monthly basis to discuss every aspect of environmental policy in Maine. From air quality to solid waste disposal, from land use regulations to water resource issues, the Chamber's environmental policy committee covers the widest variety of environmental issues.

Human Resources
Although broadly named the human resources committee, this vital public policy committee of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce reviews far more than just basic human resources legislation. The Committee covers not only breaking issues in the workplace, but also carefully monitors Maine's Workers' Compensation law and system, while at the same time solidifying the Chamber's position as a leader for the business community on health care and health insurance issues.

Taxation
The Maine State Chamber's taxation policy committee is comprised of chief financial officers, accountants and tax attorneys who have a particular interest in Maine tax policies. Since 1994, the Chamber's taxation committee has been the prime supporter of the Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement (BETR) program, as well as vocal advocates of lowering overall taxation in Maine.
